Competition in the retail arena is at a stifling high; so how do you stand out from the crowd?
Be a leader. State your claim in your space and give it a label! Since 2009. Established 2010. Servicing the food industry since 2011. First to can dog food. Whatever it be, take a position and own it.
Play the underdog well. If you’re not a leader, then play the underdog role well. We can’t always be the best, the cheapest, the fastest, the tastiest but we can be taken seriously if acknowledge our competition for their strength and fill an opposing need in the market well. Small? You are ‘Servicing a boutique clientele’.
Innovate. Constantly better yourself. Keep gardening! If you offer a dressing consultation service during the week, offer your services one night per week in the evening and invite your customers to make an appointment with you.
Market yourself. Never loose site of the fact that you are only as good as the last time you told someone about it. I am constantly forgetting how important this is. The moment you do something great, in today’s environment, you need to tell someone about it – tweet it, post it, share it! The second you forget to spread your own word, you can be guaranteed somebody is out there spreading their word. Brand loyalty is not easily won, if at all in today’s market, so your customer is only yours until they hear something fabulous about somebody else. Keep talking!
Play hard, live strong! Remember always to respect your customer and enjoy what you do.
