Signarama, in coordination with the NSW Construction and Property Services ITAB, has secured funding for the state’s first branded Pre-Apprenticeship Course to be run over 6 weeks commencing in March 2016 from Sydney Institute of TAFE in Ultimo.
With up to 20 spots available – free of charge to students – the course includes 5 weeks of practical training in selected core units from the Certificate III, as well as 1 weeks’ work experience in a Signarama store.
This is a combined industry and Government effort to drive recruitment for the industry, which has been lagging behind other trades-based services over recent years. Signarama’s National Director, Evan Foster, has been working with the ITAB along with other key industry representatives and sees this as a unique way of overcoming staffing challenges not just in their own signage stores, but across the industry in general.
“Any small business will tell you that the greatest frustration is staff,” said Foster. “We know that the signage industry is dynamic and vibrant and we want to introduce new blood and this course is a perfect way to whet the appetite for those that may be interested in finding out more before committing.”
“The benefit for signage businesses is that you can bring on an apprentice who at least has had time to understand the basics of what happens in a modern sign business and can hit the ground running when they join your operation.”
